Well, after a nice week down in Devon visiting my folks it's back to work. At least people are still off on leave, though. Might be able to catchup without getting swamped by ad-hoc support requests.

Well, I've been down here in Devon since last Thursday and yesterday Jon, Sarah and Grace showed up. It's been great being able to play my pround uncle routine. And it's nice when all six of us are in one place.

And, nearly 2, she's all talky and stuff. Which is cool.

OK, I have really got to try and average more than two posts a year. This is just getting ridiculous now.

Actually, I'm trying to get a handle on doing regular updates in various places. So I hope to put more general "what I'm up to" stuff here on my LiveJournal, general instant-thought stuff on my Twitter (@tiggspanther), random geeky stuff on another blog I have (link once I've actually got some content up...) and contribute more to a reviews site I belong to.

Of course, the real thing will be if I can actually stick to this... :-p

Oops. It's coming up to half a year since I last updated. Not quite what I intended. :-P

I can tell autumn is drawing in. It's cold. The daylight hours are shorter. And my moods are dipping a little. I'm not great with the whole winter thing, so the cold+dark makes me aware that they're drawing in.

Plus the academic year has restarted, so all the students are starting to return. And, predictably, the old ones have forgotten half the stuff to do with the computers and the new ones that arrive next week won't know then. So it's the time of the year where the most boneheaded requests come in, simply because people are a wee bit out of practice.

Sometimes I think my parents don't "get" when I take time off work to visit them.

Yes, on the one hand i do come to Devon to actually visit mum & dad. On the other, I take any time off work to escape my job. I take time off to not have to deal with other people's computers, unless I choose to.

Inevitably, my mum's always managed to louse something up on the laptop every time I visit. And it's annoying. Mainly as it's the same crap that some of the more boneheaded users at work manage to do. The trivial things that to me are breathtakingly simple, but require dropping whatever I'm doing to resolve.

It just bugs me. I'm not allowed to say "no" to users at work. And I can't even do it at not-work either.

*grrrrrr*

I moved at the beginning of the month. Only across town.

But I'm finally back online. Yes, by broadband got reactivated this morning. :-D

Now I have to go to work. :P

I just spent the weekend visiting my friend Leanne. (roiben)

Now, normally visiting a friend should be the main focus of a post-visit journal posting. Sadly, it's getting home that's the main topic here.

I had a great time. Fun was had. Gadgets and shoes were bought.

Oh, and my flat is not very warm in the current weather. Oddly, the flat itself is warmer than the airing cupboard. Which is annoying, as it's the only place I can store my bedding. I need to stash my bedding when the bed is in sofa-mode. I also, obviously, put bathtowels in the airing cupboard after a shower. As one would expect(!) it to be where to put them to dry them.

I opened the cupboard last night to find that my bathtowel was no drier than it was on Friday, and my duvet & blanket were wet through.

Thank goodness for sleeping bags.

Oh, and drying racks stuck directly in front of the bathroom heater.

There is something about this film that some people (namely my brother) seem to completely miss.

It. Is. Not. Funny.

The scenario has potential to be really funny. The basic script is probably pretty good. But Jim Carrey seems to only ever be employed in comedy films to overact.

And it ruins any film he's in.

A scenario can be funny and remain understated. A scenario can retain its humour without an actor having to mug his or her way through it. In fact, it often works better that way. Otherwise it's just forced.

I passed my interview, and have my equivalent job when the new structure kicks in on August 1st. :-)

I have swollen tonsils. :-(
I got an appointment about them this morning and saw the nurse. She says the infection should clear up. (phew!)

I know I should update, I don't know how to.

I seem to be stuck in a holding-pattern. Sadly it's a ten year one. I feel like I'm no further on than I was back in 1997, and still craving the exact same things.

Not entirely sure what to do. I'll figure it out, but I wish I knew when.
